The end of the '50s saw a mix of
designers approaching men's and womenswear with a laid-back sense of
cool. Taking this cue, in 1958 Fred Segal opened his first shop in Santa
Monica, a boutique which catered to a more casual, hip, fashion-forward
clientele. Nearly five decades later, Fred Segal has two locations that
offer even more styles, with specialized boutiques, a denim bar, and
cafe for apres-shopping snacks. Here's buyer Alex Carapetian
to tell us his hands-down favorites from the Fred Segal Man collection.
1. Nom De Guerre/Wings + Horns Jeep
Sweatshirt: "This collaberation piece brings together the best
ideas from each brand. Classic tiger fleece from Wings + Horns along
with a timeless design from Nom De Guerre."
2. Wings + Horns Sueded Service Boot:
"This boot has been a staple in the store over the last year and
this season we received it in a special suede make up just for us. Made
by hand by the Dayton Boot Co. in Canada these boots only get better
with age."
3. PRPS Limited Edition Barracuda’s in Raw: "Standard PRPS straight leg jean in raw denim. Only 250
pairs issued (50 sold in the USA) in this Purple selvedge."
4. Robert Geller Treated Denim Trench Coat: "This is from one of our favorite designers at the store.
Geller’s biggest ideas come from layering, and no piece offers better
options than this trench. Made of coated denim, with oxidized buttons,
this piece can be worn through various seasons."
5. UNIS Hunting Coat: "This coat
is one of our favorite pieces of the season. The tonal suede elbow patch
is an amazing touch."
